According to the DSM-IV, (American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual), a person over the age of 18 who shows a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and the violation of the rights of others with these patterns of behavior beginning in childhood and commonly termed a ‘sociopath’, or ‘psychopath’ is assigned a diagnosis of Anti-Social Personality disorder.
